Wardrobe dividers

I am lucky enough to have to wardrobes, but the clothes are hard to organsie and things keep getting mixed up.

I bought some plain MDF hangers on Etsy (3 for £3.25 then a further 15 for £16.25) and painted them all white. I ordered vinyl labels form eBay, originally with the intention of putting them all down the side, but in the end I decided to put them at the top. Some of the longer ones had to be tilted to fit because the original person I bought hangers from never sent them, and those had been slightly larger.

I found an artist online who draws plus size women in gorgeous clothes (@edull.art) and adapted his designs to fit my categories. I had the pictures printed on matt thick paper then fussy cut them and mod podged the designs on.

I am really pleased with how they turned out. I do wish I had ordered the labels to be the same length throughout so they would match up better, but now at least my clothes are organised!

Mother's Day Frame

My friend's mum passed away eight years ago, and she has had a very tough fifteen months, so I made her  little something to cheer her up this coming Mother's Day.

I found the mdf scroll poem  (£1.40, craft fair). I bought the frame (£2 for two, Poundland) and added a backing paper, some paper flowers (£10£1.50 per pack, The Works, Home Bargains, and Poundland) before adding a frame of pearls (£1, The Works).

She loved the gift and was really touched. She keeps a bouquet and a photo out for her mum on Mother's Day, so she's adding this into the mix.

Chuck tray

I found a writing patterned Decopatch paper (£4, Amazon) and wanted to do something with it, but was not sure what. I ended up finding a star cut out wooden tray that I loved (£4, the Works), and decided to make a tray to throw bits and pieces in (i.e. all the craft stuff I don't tidy away.

I painted the tray in multiple layers of white, then cut the Decopatch paper to fit the bottom. I thought it looked to plain so I painted the thin edges of the wood black, which looked much better. I then modgepodged the whole of the inside a few times, and gave the rest of it one layer, leaving each layer to dry between. It has a lovely gloss and even fits neatly on a shelf when I need to clear my desk. I love how it turned out and am already looking around to see what else I can use this paper for.

Gillian's Ashes

This one was for my cousin, who passed away in August 2020 unexpectedly. The family was very shocked, and obviously devastated. I didn't know what to do to help, so I decided to make something she would have loved.

I got a wooden box from The Works (£4) and painted it in several layers of white. I ordered bespoke ribbon saying in Loving Memory. I got hold of some leopard print decopatch paper (£2ish, Hobbycraft) and glued it on both sides of A4 white card, before cutting out circles, forming the rose, and placing it inside with pink shredded tissue. I also cut out a picture of her looking happy, and fit it to the inside of the lid. The outside of the lid looked really plain, so I Painted and glued a wooden initial onto it, but now looking at the colours I don't think it really worked.

I gave the box to my uncle when he visited the flat, and he didn't say anything (he was unable; the grief was very fresh), and my aunt then called in tears to thank me for it. They had lots of ashed after the funeral and they did not know what to do with them all. They had spread her between potted plants at family members' homes but there was a considerable amount left and they placed some of her ashes in the box under the rose. It was a horrible horrible time for everyone involved, and the fact the box gave my aunt and uncle a nicer way to keep her with them made the work well worth it.

Strawberry gift container

I was making a fruit basket for a younger cousin a few years back, and had been gifted an Easter container at work that I liked the shape of, which gave me an idea.

I washed the container out, and then used masking tape to mark off triangles from halfway down up to the lid. I spray painted the outside green, then used a food safe white acrylic to make dots on the inside. I let it dry for a day (work called!) and filled it with strawberries on the day.
